1. Continue Self-Funding or Pitch to Investors? Finding the Right Strategy for Zoivane, a Pet Wellness Brand – Dr. Yesha Mehta
Zoivane Pets began as a pet grooming supplies brand. Its founder, Nishma Singhal, wants to offer a wider range of products, expand into new markets, and provide pet spa services. To meet her goals for the business, she may need investors. How should she transition Zoivane into a growth phase? Nishma successfully brought her company from the stage of research to form a privately owned entity. Her ambition, focus, and prior experience in the cosmetics and toiletries industry set her up favorably to meet many of the challenges of starting a business selling pet grooming products, such as formulating new products and establishing sales channels. Some challenges remain, however. Among these are protecting her formulations from being stolen and hiring or partnering with others who can help realize her dreams for expanding the company. Nishma feels that pitching her business to potential investors and venture capitalists will help her grow the business quickly while the pet grooming market is ripe for Zoivane’s offerings. She does not want to miss her chance; on the other hand, there are certain advantages to running a self-sustaining business.
