Unpacking Union Budget 2020-21: Insights for Tomorrow's Leaders

The session for the Union Budget 2020-21 was held for all PGDM and MMS students as on February 1st, 2020. Prior to the Union Budget session, the students were briefed about the different aspects of a budget in a pre-budget session by Prof. Jonita D’costa. The briefing included the history of Union Budget in India, preparation of the budget and parts of the budget.

Following the same, the Union Budget was telecasted live for the students. The Honorable Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, then presented the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha. The objective of the session was to familiarize students with the technical concepts involved in a budget speech and to make them understand key highlights of the budget. The students gain knowledge about impact of budget announcements on various economic sectors along with their growth prospects. The central ideas of the Budget were – “Aspirational India, Economic Development, A Caring Society.” Other significant announcements were made in education sector, power and renewable energy sector, rural sector, agricultural sector, etc.
